final project for photographic systems- cross pollination: recreating stills from british tv show skins!
this has been a personal project that i’ve been wanting to do for a while, so im so glad i had an excuse to start it early!
what i wrote on my didactic:
Skins UK (2007-2013) was a British teen drama television series following the lives of a group of friends in Bristol, the focused group changing every two seasons. It reflected the real experiences of young people, with the average age of writers for the series being 21 years old, and actors being the ages of their characters (give or take a year or two). The characters in Skins have acne, deal with grief and loss, mental health issues, teen pregnancy, parental issues, and simply growing up and becoming an adult. Although it is fictional, there is so much truth to the series, so much of reality reflected in the relatable characters and scenes. For this photographic series, I wanted to recreate some stills from the show that encapsulate what happens during its 7 seasons, paired with quotes that exemplify the themes explored. Essentially, I am compressing this beloved series into a few still photographs that reflect it, and also show the importance of the media we consume reflecting real life, especially for young people.
